Preface
RaeAnne Education Center is the name of our Phillips' family home school. Over the years God has lead my husband, Cal, and me, Caroljeanne, to extend the borders of our home school to include other home schooling families in a variety of ways. As we have sought to follow God's lead and allow him to use us as He saw fit, He has built up an extensive teaching ministry. The addition of faculty with a variety of skills and talents has enabled us to expand our course offering and class opportunities. The purpose of Rae Anne Education Center is to assist parents in the education of their children, whether through training classes for adults or courses offered for the children directly. Our goal is to provide quality, godly, and affordable classes for children and to be a resource for parents as they seek to improve their own teaching skills.
It is a great honor for us to teach your children. We are so grateful for the opportunity you and God have given us and we consider ourselves richly blessed for the time we get to spend with your children. They are terrific kids and the fundamental reason is, they come from such wonderful families with such great parents!

General Guidelines
Welcome
All families are welcome regardless of denomination or faith. However, it is important that every parent know that we believe and share wherever possible the Gospel of Jesus Christ as taught in God’s Word, the Bible. We do not make any effort to hide our faith. On the contrary, we bring in Biblical application and insight wherever possible. Students will often be asked to memorize a scripture verse that correlates with material being studied or look for Biblical application or instruction on the topic at hand. We deliberately and consciously present subject matter from a Biblical worldview.
Make-up Classes
We will try to accommodate make-ups where necessary but it is not always feasible. If you know in advance of a planned absence, let the teacher know and he/she will be better able to help your child make up the work in a timely fashion. It is the student's responsibility to obtain missed assignments and handouts from the teacher.
Drop-off and Pick-up
Please send your child into class no earlier than five minutes before class time. Please arrive five minutes before the close of class to pick-up your child. At both times, please leave siblings in your car. Don't panic if we run over, we are always trying to give you the most for your money! Classes are held at the Evangelical Community Church on Pipkin Road in Jackson.
Class Visitation
Although parents are always welcome in class, siblings are not. The space and distractions make it prohibitive. The door is always open for parents and you don't need to let us know ahead of time, just come.
Tuition and Fees
Regular tuition and materials fees are listed with the course descriptions. All fall semester tuition and fees are due by August 1st and spring semester tuition and fees are due by December 11th. Additional fees that may be incurred are as follows:
Field Trips - the costs vary
Make-up Test Creation and Scoring - $20
Late Tuition fees - $5.00/week
Refund Policies
The fall registration deadline is June 30th. Classes without the minimum enrollment will be canceled at that time and a full refund will be issued.
After June 30th, lab fees are non-refundable.
100% of the tuition is refundable prior to August 1st.
As of August 1st, parents are responsible for 100% of the tuition regardless of continued enrollment status. If a class is a full year course parents are financially responsible for entire year.
If for some reason, a student drops one class after August 1st but picks up another, parents are responsible for the tuition for BOTH courses.
Textbooks and Supplies
Unless otherwise indicated in the course description, parents are responsible for procuring textbooks and supplies. The textbooks are listed with the course descriptions usually with links for online ordering. Sources for ordering are suggested but not required. Only consumable texts need be new. Many courses have an assignment due the first class; consequently texts are needed one week before the start of class. Students are expected to regularly come to class with all their supplies.
Grades and Syllabi
For those courses that are graded, a formal report card will be issued at the end of each course. To accommodate those working with umbrella schools, mid-year grades are emailed in January. Assignments for all senior and some junior high level work are graded. Depending on the course, some elementary classes will be graded and some will not. At the end of the school year the teacher meets with each student and his or her parents. This is an opportunity for mutual assessment. The teacher assesses the student’s work and classroom contributions. The student and the parents assess the teacher as well as the course taken. It is a great opportunity for growth on our part as well as on the student’s.
Dress Code
Students are expected to dress modestly and neatly. Ripped, shabby, or torn clothing or clothing with offensive messages should be avoided. Skin-tight clothing is inappropriate. Midriffs must be covered at all times. Hats are to be removed inside the building. Students enrolled in laboratory classes must wear closed shoes and bring their own long sleeved lab shirt/jacket to class (one of dad’s old shirts is fine).
Snacks
Students who are enrolled in either long classes (2+ hours) or two classes in a row should bring a healthy snack for that time. Please send brain food not junk food!
Assignments
Students are given assignment sheets to put in their notebooks. If there is ever any confusion regarding an assignment they can always call or email the teacher.
Expect assignments prior to the first class, between semesters and on the last class for upper level courses. Assignments between sessions are no heavier than a regular weekly assignment and so there is plenty of time for vacation. There are no extra assignments over intra-semester breaks. Assignments given on the last class are usually to complete a long-term assignment that was given much earlier in the year, or to complete the last exam.
Assignments turned in without a name receive a zero.
Assignment Tardiness
Assignments not turned in when due will lose some credit and assignments turned in more than one week from their due date will receive no credit.
Tests turned in up to one week late will automatically lose 5 points. Tests turned in more than one week after the due date will receive zero points. However, all tests and quizzes must be turned in to ensure that the material is being covered is being understood and studied.
Priority Changes
There are times when children get sick or you as their parents have changes in the priorities for them. The priority change option is given to accommodate the realities of family life e.g. sickness, vacations, relatives visiting, etc. Please do not use the priority change option to accommodate poor planning on the student's part or lifestyle tardiness. When an assignment will be late with parental permission, please send the teacher an index card with priority change information as illustrated below and credit will not be lost under these circumstances.
Priority Change 10/12/08
Dear Teacher,
Bobby's Latin assignment: translations for chapter 6, will be completed by 10/17/08.
Sincerely,
Emily GreenfieldThe completion date you indicate will become the new due date and the assignment will not be considered late until after that date.
Testing and Grades
Other than hands-on exams and quizzes, tests are usually taken at home. You are the proctor for your child.
These classes are set up for success. If all of the assigned work has been done as instructed, it is virtually impossible to fail a test. It has been our experience that 99.99% of the time when a child fails a test it is because they have not adequately done the work. A minimum of 70% is required for passing. In the event a student fails a test and he or she wishes to take a make-up test, there will be a $20 fee for test creation and scoring. Students must maintain a 70% test average in order to pass a course.
Report Cards
Detailed report cards are issued at the end of the school year. Progress reports and fall semester grades are emailed during the year. RaeAnne Education Center does NOT give grades to any person or organization beside the student's parents. How parents use report cards is entirely up to them.
In the event that a student has been given make-up work that is not completed at the end of a course, a six-week extension may be given at the teacher's discretion.
Cheating and Plagiarism
Odd though it may seem, this is an area where home schoolers tend to be naive. Since they are not continuously surrounded by opportunities for cheating, it is a little discussed issue. On the contrary, they are generally in an atmosphere where helping one another is appropriate. It is vitally important that you explain to your child how to take a test and how not to take a test. They also need to have a thorough understanding of what plagiarism is and how to properly quote and footnote their work.
The first instance of cheating or plagiarism is given a zero for the work. In the second instance, the student may be asked to withdraw from the class.
Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences
Junior and senior high school level courses are graded. Parents of junior high students who would prefer no grading need only let the teacher know in writing. In May, the teacher will schedule a conference to go over your child's grades and work for the year. It is customary for you and your child to attend. This is also an opportunity for you and your child to assess the class and give your feedback and suggestions for improvement. The teacher will give you a report card for each class with an explanation of the composition of the grade.
